Pets are an important part of the family. They ARE family.
And the one thing about families is that they stick together. If someone isn’t there when they’re supposed to be, we really miss them.
When a pet goes missing part of your heart goes with them.
You worry that they are cold. Or hungry. Or frightened. And you do everything you can to make sure they get back home safe and sound!
Sometimes though, no matter how hard you try, or what you do, you can’t find them.
All you can do is pray that they are safe somewhere and learning how to be happy without you.
That’s what happened to Paula Williams.
One day she let the family dog, Kace, out of the house to go to the bathroom. But later, when she went to call her back inside, she had disappeared.
The family searched the neighborhood and did everything you are supposed to do when a dog is lost.
But sadly, it seemed that no one had seen Kace, and no one had any idea where she might be.
Watching her 6-year-old son grieving over his loss almost broke the poor mother’s heart. She was determined to find Kace and bring her home, no matter what.
About a week after Kace went missing their town was hit by a blizzard.
The 20 inches of snow dumped on them so quickly made their search a lot more difficult. But they still didn’t give up.
As soon as they could leave their home again, they were out and about in the snow, looking and calling for Kace all over town.
For weeks Paula kept that faith that she would find Kace, but then hope started diminishing. The weeks turned into months.
The family finally admitted that Kace likely wasn’t going to ever come home…and her son was devastated.
Time went on.
Then, nearly 8 months later, Paula was stuck behind a school bus on her way home. She watched as two little girls got off the bus at one stop.
Suddenly out of the bushes, there bounced a big white dog.
Paula’s mouth dropped! The dog was Kace…alive and well! And apparently, fairly happy.
She jumped out of the car and ran toward the dog, gathering her up in her arms, “That’s my son’s dog!” she cried.
The girls’ family had found Kace just before the snowstorm and took her into their home. They had fallen in love with her and decided she could stay; they thought someone had abandoned her.
But when they realized Kace’s real owners were trying to find him, they gratefully gave him back.
So Paula took Kace home and, well, it was the reunion you’d expect.
Paula captured the following video of him at the moment when he realized who else had come back home.
If his tears of joy don’t prompt some of your own, something is seriously wrong with you!
