We live in a world of acronyms.
When we need to leave the computer for a few moments while chatting, we say we’ll be AFK but will BRB.
Our friends know that we will be “away from the keyboard” but will “be right back.”
If someone makes us smile, we say we are LOL, although, we all know almost no one really “laughs out loud.”
And of course, we all know what a BFF is: Best Friends Forever.
One goose in Oregon takes that whole “forever” thing a little more seriously than her owner expected, however.
When Mike Javanjee rescued a drowning gosling he named Kyle near Lake Oswego in Portland, Oregon, he decided to take her under his wing (pun intended).
While he nursed her back to health, he took the baby goose everywhere he went.
He wasn’t aware that baby ducks and geese imprint easily and before he knew it, he was Kyle’s best friend.
It really made for a great conversation piece.
After all, how many guys do you know that travel about with a baby goose?
But, then Kyle started growing up and before long, Mike and Kyle became regular fixtures walking around town.
Yup, just a guy and his goose, out for a stroll!
When Mike stretched out on the couch to watch a movie or catch some Z’s, guess who was stretched out beside him?
Just like a good BFF!
And if you think a dog is a great chick magnet, you should try walking around with a goose.
Everyone notices…although it did sort of ruffle Kyle’s feathers when Mike brought home a new lady friend.
“She has her good days and bad days.
She can be very jealous when certain girls are around, but the majority of my friends she gets along with,” Mike explained.
But despite all the good times, Mike finally decided that Kyle was old enough to make it on her own.
So, with a heavy heart, he and Kyle headed out on the boat on Lake Oswego—the very body of water where they’d first met.
His plan was to release her back into the beautiful Oregon wild where she belonged.
But Kyle had other ideas.
She watched as Mike sped in the boat away from her. Then she spread her wings and flew…
Straight to Mike’s home! She was waiting on him when he pulled into his yard.
Apparently she had the instincts of a homing pigeon, because no matter how far away Mike took her, she beat him back home. Every time.
“I’ve tried to get rid of her, you know. I’ve driven her miles away, and then left her in the middle of nowhere, and when I come back she’s already home before me, so there’s not a lot we can do,” Mike joked during an interview.
Their relationship brings to mind the lyrics to a song by the Huntingtons:
“You follow me around downtown, Like a dog without a home, And I’d do almost anything if you’d just leave me alone.
It’s not gonna make it better if I see you every day. ‘Cause how can I miss you if you won’t go away?”
Kyle doesn’t intend for Mike to be missing her any time soon.
She heard someone say that they were BFFs and she knows that second F stands for Forever.
Here’s wishing Kyle and Mike a long and happy friendship.
Certainly one of the oddest relationships we’ve seen in a long time, but who are we to judge?
We just hope they continue to be there for each other. Who could ask for anything more from a best friend?
No matter the species!
