Nothing breaks our hearts more than seeing animals abused or neglected. When both occur within the context of a dog fighting ring, the outcome is inexcusable.
Miami-Dade Animal Services rescued a group of dogs who were all part of a dog fighting ring. One dog, in particular, stole their hearts.
Three-year-old Abigail had experienced intense abuse as a bait dog for others who were more vicious than she.
When she was finally rescued, Abigail was missing an ear and required many stitches on her head, neck and hind end.
It looked like she had been bitten over and over again throughout her body. Some wounds even suggested that she had been bitten as she tried to flee her attackers.
Abigail has already required several surgeries and will likely need more.
Caretakers with Love Is Fur Ever Dog Rescue, the group caring for Abigail, started putting decorative ribbons and bows on Abigail to protect her from further injury and to hide her scars.
When Abigail’s story hit social media, animal lovers were so touched by Abigail’s story that they began sending her treats, bows and ribbons.
Victoria Frazier, the founder of Love Is Fur Ever Dog Rescue, shared Abigail’s story on Facebook.
“Her whole entire side of her face was missing. Her skin tissue was hanging. Most of her ear was gone,” Frazier said. “People all over the world are following her journey. She gets gifts weekly – from organic treats, toys, to bonnets.”
A Facebook page called Bonnets for Abigail has been started for those who want to follow Abigail’s story. A Go Fund Me page has also been set up for those interested in helping to fund her recovery and additional surgeries.
