It’s a huge decision to have a litter of puppies or kittens.
It’s expensive, time-consuming and you might wonder if there are good enough homes for the animals you’ll be producing.
Once you’ve weighed your options, discussed the pros and cons with your vet and made the decision to go for it, it’s time to get excited.
But wait…you can’t predict everything.
Usually the larger the dog, the larger the litter of puppies they will have, right?
So, when Eleanor Usher, 47, and her husband, Ian, from Telford, Shropshire decided to breed their family dog, Jessie, they knew they should expect a fairly large litter.
They were told by their vet to expect probably six to eight puppies. And that seemed normal.
But Jessie had a surprise in store for everyone…
The puppies started coming and then, they just kept on coming! At which point, Eleanor got a little worried:
“We just thought: ‘Oh my god, when is she going to stop?’”
Eight, nine, ten, eleven…and still Jessie had puppies in there waiting to be born!
The astounded owners began to wonder if this was going to be a record number of puppies.
They looked it up, and found out that the largest litter in the U.K. was 18, and the second highest was 13.
And Jessie was quickly approaching second place.
“The way that Jessie was going, and the speed at which they were coming out of her, we were fearing that it would get as high as 20.
Thankfully it was all over by about 8.00 a.m.”
Jessie finally said she was done after the fifteenth puppy was delivered successfully. The second-most EVER in the UK!
Then it was time for a well-deserved rest.
Eleanor named the smallest puppy Daisy and the biggest Walter, but other pups have not been named yet as they look almost identical to each other.
I’m sure their mama can tell them apart, but they will need some colored collars so everyone else can!
The Ushers know that Jessie would make a great mom, too:
“[Jessie has] always been extremely affectionate and has a motherly attitude.
Even with the cat, she will walk over to her and give her a cuddle and a lick.”
She certainly has her work cut out for her with fifteen babies to cuddle and lick. And when they get a few weeks older, the Usher family has their work out cut out for them as well.
Can you imagine the cuteness overload when all fifteen babies get their puppy legs under them?
Oh dear! But oh, so much adorable goodness! 😀
