What Does A Parrot Buy When Left Alone With An Amazon Echo? Now We Know (Hysterical)!

Have you ever ordered something online and then forgot that you ordered it? Sometimes you don’t remember anything about it until it arrives. Or you get a confirmation email that jogs your memory.

That happened to Corinne Pretorius recently. She got an email from Amazon telling her that her order had been confirmed and would be shipped soon.

That would ordinarily be great news. Except that Pretorius hadn’t ordered anything.

She asked her husband if he had ordered anything. Nope, he hadn’t ordered anything either.

Then, she asked her son if he had placed an order. Nope. He hadn’t.

That just left one person in the house that might have placed the order. But, surely not!

The only other family member left to question was her African Grey parrot, Buddy.

And, as it turned out, Buddy was the culprit. His cage was sitting next to their new voice-activated device from Amazon. Buddy and “Alexa” (the name given to the voice) had had a conversation. and Buddy had ended up placing an order.

They figured out what was going on when suddenly Buddy said “Alexa” and, as that is the action word that sets the unit into motion, it asked what Buddy wanted to do.

And that chat had ended up with Buddy placing an order. I guess he needs his own email account now so he doesn’t have to worry about someone else intercepting the order and having a chance to cancel it before it can leave the warehouse.

What does a parrot that is left home alone order from Amazon when he gets bored? Apparently, Buddy was invited to a birthday party that no one knows about, He ordered $13.50 worth of golden gift boxes.

We don’t think he should be blamed. Apparently “someone” in the household had been using Alexa to make orders and do other things around the house pretty frequently. An African Grey is one of the smartest breeds, and Buddy was an especially brilliant one. He had copied Corinne’s voice beautifully. Not even Alexa could tell the difference.

They moved Alexa a little farther away from Buddy’s perch after that. A family can only use so many little gold gift boxes. They apparently don’t get invited to as many parties as Buddy does.
