Sometimes, people are quick to dismiss the capabilities of those with disabilities.
They tend to see only what cannot be done and overlook all the things that someone with a disability is capable of doing. This is true with humans as well as with animals.
Just because an animal has a special need, this does not mean that the animal is incapable of living a happy, healthy and fulfilling life.
Quite the contrary. It is often these animals with special needs who are the most loving and appreciative at the home they are blessed to have.
This is the story of one such dog. Pippin was taken to the Lovey Loaves Special Needs Rescue and Sanctuary when he was just a puppy.
Pippin was born without his front two legs. Otherwise, he is a healthy puppy and has no additional medical needs. Some would argue that the humane thing to do would be to put down a dog like Pippin since he will have no quality to his life.
But others saw the potential in the amazing spirit this dog has.
Pippin is adored by all at the shelter. He loves to play and roll around just as any puppy does. He walks. He runs.
He pretty much does all the things that puppies are supposed to do. The only difference is that he does them on two legs.
Pippin has learned how to walk using only his hind legs. Those who see him are sometimes reminded of the way a T-Rex supposedly walked.
When he runs, people say he looks like a bunny hopping along.
The shelter has plans to create a wheelchair for Pippin so that he can move in a more normal fashion. This will help to protect his hind legs and hips in the future.
For now, however, they are simply waiting for him to grow a bit. There is no point in fitting him for a custom-made wheelchair until he stops growing as rapidly as he is currently.
Pippin is clearly a happy, healthy dog despite being born with a birth defect. We should all be inspired by this precious pup and his determination to live life to the fullest.
Here’s a video of another puppy born without legs thriving. Would you adopt a special needs puppy like Pippin or Nubby?
This tiny puppy was born without front legs, but he got the world's best foster dad — who had trouble letting him go 🐶💞💞💞
