After Rescued Kitten Loses An Eye, His Owner Had An Idea

We’re talking about a special rescued kitten and his comeback story today. Being born different can be difficult sometimes. If you’re lucky, you have a mom that doesn’t treat you any differently than she would if you were “normal.”

If you’re fortunate, that mom goes out of her way to make you feel special and loved and works to make the world see you as “normal,” as possible.

A MOTHER’S LOVE

When a little cat named Scar was born with a severe eye infection, it was almost a death sentence for him. Sadly, he was already born into the world an unwanted kitten.

It’s tough to find a foster home for a newborn kitten that is perfectly healthy. Finding someone willing to give a sick baby a chance is nearly impossible.

But, Scar got lucky!

LUCKY

As soon as Savannah Anos heard about Scar’s plight, she knew she had to help him. Savannah and her friends drove two and a half hours to rescue Scar and his siblings — who had been born in the wild and abandoned by their mom.

Scar would be a challenge for Savannah. As an abandoned newborn, he would require feedings every 2 hours around the clock. Additionally, he needed a costly and risky surgery just for a chance to stay alive.

SCAR WAS SO TINY AT ONLY 2 WEEKS OLD AND 8.5 OUNCES, THAT THE DOCTOR WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HOOK HIM UP TO MONITORS, FIT A BREATHING TUBE DOWN HIS THROAT, OR KNOW HOW THE ANESTHESIA WAS AFFECTING HIM DURING THE PROCEDURE,” ANAS, A MARINE BIOLOGIST AND ANIMAL ADVOCATE, TOLD THE DODO. “THIS MADE IT AN EXTREMELY HIGH-RISK SURGERY.”

Sadly, he lost his left eye during the high-risk surgery. But, like any good mom of a kid that’s a little bit “different,” Savannah didn’t let that little obstacle change her mind about adopting Scar.

To keep the stitches clean and safe after surgery, Savannah had an eyepatch custom-made for her little survivor. Because she had to feed her new baby every couple of hours around the clock, Scar had to go with her on every step of her busy life.

“SCAR LOVES HIS EYE PATCH AND IT DOES NOT BOTHER HIM AT ALL,” ANAS SAID. “HE NEVER TRIES TO TAKE IT OFF. I FOUND IT MAKES HIM MORE APPROACHABLE RATHER THAN PEOPLE BEING AFRAID OF WHY HE DOESN’T HAVE AN EYE.”

HE’S A SPECIAL CAT

Scar not only never minded wearing the eye patch, but he’s become so used to it that if she forgets to put it on him, he reminds her.

He had a pretty rough start in life, but with Savannah at his side, he’s making the most out of every minute now. He is a healthy, happy, and playful kitten who is enjoying going through life playing pirate with his mom.
