Throughout the world, volunteers work around the clock to bring a better life to suffering animals.
For such sad creatures, life is miserable and painful, and those volunteers are their only hope.
But for one dog in British Columbia, it must have seemed as if all hope was lost.
Judith had spent her entire life on a chain in the yard of an owner who cared very little about her.
Judith had no shelter, only occasional food and water and absolutely no companionship or affection.
Her world consisted only of the circle she could walk at the length of her chain; a world that was mainly covered in mud.
Her plight had caught the attention of many of her neighbors over the 10 years (!) that the poor dog had suffered.
Finally a complaint was sent to The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or BCSPCA.
The neighbors hoped that after all these years, now poor Judith would be rescued.
Shockingly, however, the BCSPCA did not attempt to rescue the dog, or even fine the owners.
Instead, they offered these awful people $50 to put Judith down!
After receiving a rash of complaints and calls, Judith’s owners decided to do just that.
The saddened neighbors tried to console themselves, as the poor pooch wouldn’t be suffering any more.
But, just as it seemed that there was no hope left for Judith, one of the concerned neighbors discovered Animal Advocates.
Workers from the organization quickly responded and they were able to rescue the pup when she was on Death Row!
“She had no comforts, no blanket, no toys, not even a bone,” Animal Advocates explained.
“Often there was no food or water.”
Just in the nick of time, they snatched Judith away from the owners that were willing to kill her for $50!
Moments before Judith’s life was to have ended, she found herself alive and well at the Animal Advocates shelter.
Although things were looking up for her, poor Judith had a long way to go before she would be adoption ready.
But under all that caked mud, matted fur and pain was a sweet, loving dog.
Judith’s matted fur was shaved off, revealing to her rescuers that she was extremely malnourished.
Her tail had been so caked in mud that it could hardly move, but once it was freed it began wagging wildly.
Judith was so grateful to her heroes for rescuing her from those horrible conditions. What a heroic last-minute rescue!
She was adoption-ready in no time, and she had no trouble finding a forever home.
Her new mom and dad, Mike and Alyssa fell in love with Judith from the moment they saw her.
“[They] took one look at her, put their arms around her, and said, ‘We’re taking you home,’” Animal Advocates shared.
Congratulations on finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, Judith.
May the remainder of your life be wonderful enough to erase all the bad memories!
