The bond between a police officer and his K9 dog is powerful.
It’s about more than the inherent link between a guy and man’s best friend.
It’s about two partners performing an exceedingly dangerous job together, and protecting each other in potentially fatal situations.
K9 dogs have been known to save the lives of their masters many times over, and yeah, they’ve taken down a bad guy or two.
In this case, however, it was the police officer that had to rush to save his bleeding partner.
Reno, a heroic member of a California police department’s K9 unit, was chasing suspect Fernando Sanchez.
Sanchez, who had busted through the security gate of the William J. Kinney Police Facility in Sacramento, fought off Reno’s attack several times.
As a result, poor Reno suffered two deep cuts to his abdomen and as things escalated, shots rang out as well.
And even though Reno wasn’t about to give up, officers knew he needed immediate medical attention.
In this stunning body-cam footage, you see them clamoring to help the dog; they hold him down while applying bandages to his wounds.
They keep him alive until they get him into a vehicle to be taken to the VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center.
And that quick action very likely saved Reno’s life.
The never-say-die canine underwent successful surgery and is expected to fully recover.
As for Sanchez, he was shot by police during the pursuit and his rap sheet includes robbery, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, felony vandalism, etc, etc, etc.
So we’re not about to feel sorry for this guy.
Rather, we always feel sorry for our furry friends who put themselves on the line for our officers.
And clearly, those police officers think VERY highly of their four-legged partners!
