With the way we love our dogs, one thing is definitely clear: It’s a dog’s world. The abundance of books, movies, and websites dedicated to our furry friends are pretty clear evidence of that.
But our love of dogs really goes further than that. Dogs just seem to “get” us. They are in tune with our emotions and who can resist that adorable wiggling butt and wagging tail when we come home from work?
And I can think of at least 5 good reasons we love our dogs.
You’re not a top chef? Your dog isn’t going to mind
There are few foods dogs don’t love, PetMD reports. They are definitely not fussy, so even if you’re the type of cook who burns water, you’ve lucked out here. Your dog’s going to love you no matter what. But if you give out table scraps keep in mind that some foods aren’t safe for dogs.
We all know that chocolate isn’t safe. Just in case, though, here’s a list of unsafe foods to keep you on the up and up. And even though it’s tempting to spoil your pooch, he’ll really do best with high quality dry and canned food.
Your dog is a good listener
When you come home stressed out from work, your dog is always ready for a cuddle on the couch, and if you live alone, that’s especially comforting. A dog will put his paw in your lap and reward you with happy licks. He’s someone who will always love you unconditionally — and that’s something we all need.
He’s a great exercise partner too!
As the funny video above indicates dogs (and other pets) make great exercise partners. Dogs are not couch potatoes. In an age where video games, movies, ebooks, and other technological wonders keep us sedentary, our dogs are ready to get moving.
Many dogs love a good run or a romp in their favorite dog park. So having a dog almost guarantees you’ll be healthier!
A dog is a (hu)man’s BFF
If you truly love your dog you already know he’s never boring. His playfulness is adorable, and if you live by yourself, he’s a source of protection as well. Who knows how many barking dogs have scared off bad people?
Whether he’s an elegant older gentleman or a rambunctious puppy, he’ll fill your life with happy memories. And because puppies are rambunctious they love getting into trouble, which keeps you on your toes. That’s definitely not a bad thing.
Your dog will always love you no matter what
Your dog is the one living being who will do a happy dance when you come home. He will greet you ecstatically even if you’ve only been gone 20 minutes. He doesn’t care if your hair looks like you brushed it with an egg-beater or if you’ve been sweating in a two-hour traffic jam. He’s just thrilled you’re home.
I’m willing to bet the list of reasons to love your dog could be unending. And I don’t have enough time in the world to write that up. Besides, it’s time for me to go pet my dog.
